Creating a child-safe environment is very important, even if you're just visiting grand parents for weekend!  After all, you don't want your child to fall down that spiral staircase or hit his head against the stone fire-surround at your in-laws!

We all know how babies and toddlers like to explore everything they're surrounded by so it's a good idea to try an view your home through the eyes of an adventurous toddler and adapt your home accordingly.  It may not matter so much that he pulls out all the books of the lower bookshelves but you certainly don't want him to start drawing on your white walls with the charcoals from the fire place! 

There are lots of safety products available to buy although you should also use your own common sense to make sure your toddler has a safe environment in which to learn about his world.  For instance, rather than fixing child locks to all your kitchen cupboards, why not fill the lower ones with tea towels or plastic storage containers?  Like this your child can empty the cupboard and fill it again whilst you're busy making dinner.  You'll still have to watch out that he doesn't trap his fingers, though but at least he'll have plenty of learning experience and fun rather than being told off the whole time for following his natural investigative instincts!  Another tip is to replace hydrocorrels with unfertilized soil for your house plants - or better even, keep plants out of reach altogether!  On all accounts, it's better for your baby to eat a mouthful of soil than choke on hydrocorrels!!

When you're frequently on the move, you'll want to be able to use pressure-fixing stair gates so you don't have to drill holes everywhere you go.  Or take your flexible Baby Dan fire surround with you so you can use it as a temporary stair gate around that dangerous spiral staircase at your in-laws!
