Why do you buy organic products for your child?
The birth or a baby is the motivation for many people to start buying organic food for the first time. In fact, about 50% of all baby food bought in the UK these days is organic. But it doesn't stop there, many parents also decide to buy organic health care products or organic clothes for their child.
Well, whatever your reason, you’ve made the right choice! Animals bred and plants grown in a natural environment without pesticides and toxicides have more vitamins and nutrients than their non-organic versions. They also have more essential fatty acids that prevent illnesses such as heart disease. But most people these days don't need convincing about the advantages of organic food - it's their choice to pay that little bit extra or not. The choice also exists for health care products and clothes. Few parents go out of their way to only buy organic and be 'green'. They make make compromises. That's perfectly understandable. Apart from the cost aspect it's also a matter of priorities and convenience. Does your child really need a winter coat made of organic wool? It may be an environmentally-friendly decision to buy one but your child itself would probably be just as warm and healthy in a non-organic version. And what's your opinion on disposable vs non-disposable nappies...? With health care products on the other hand it's worth thinking twice. After all, you're already likely to use baby-specific products on your baby instead of adult varieties because you know that a baby’s skin is far more delicate than that of adults. In fact, did you know that your newborn baby’s skin is 5 times thinner than that of adults? It's also capable of absorbing up to 60% of what it comes into contact with. Especially when you have sensitive skin yourself or live in an area with lots of cars and industry you'll probably be quite fussy about what sort of products you use on your own skin. It's a similar story with organic cotton. Standard cotton fibres are subjected to a lot of chemical treatment as they are grown, harvested and processed into the fashionable clothes you see in most shops. This means that there are a lot of toxins within the fibre. Now if you think that this comes into direct contact with your child’s skin…. Ultimately, there are always decisions to be made and unfortunatly you can't protect your child from everything. What we try to do with our range of unique baby and children's items is offer you a selection of organic or ethically-produced products that can help you make your own informed choice.
